About this job
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD Research Associate to join our R&D activities for CRISPR-Cas-based detection projects.
The successful candidate will work on engineering Cas-enzymes, assay development, optimization, and validation of CRISPR-Cas-based molecular diagnostics.
This role requires hands-on experience in protein engineering, molecular biology and assay development, excellent problem-solving skills, and a strong interest in innovative research and technology development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engineering Cas enzyme
- Design and optimize CRISPR-Cas-based detection assays for various targets
- Conduct molecular biology experiments, including nucleic acid extraction, amplification (PCR/RPA), and CRISPR-mediated detection
- Perform fluorescence and lateral flow-based readouts for assay validation
- Troubleshoot and improve assay sensitivity, specificity and reproducibility
- Enhance enzyme performance through directed evolution
- Analyse experimental data, prepare reports, and present findings to the team
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including bioinformatics and engineering groups
- Maintain accurate lab records and ensure compliance with safety regulations
- Contribute to scientific publications and patent filings as needed
Qualifications & Skills:
Essential
- PhD in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or a related field
- Strong hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques, including protein expression and purification, and RT-PCR
- Experience in protein/enzyme engineering
- Knowledge of CRISPR-Cas technologies and their applications, particularly Cas12 and Cas13
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
Highly Desirable
- Experience with isothermal amplification methods, such as RPA or LAMP
- Experience in DNA/RNA detection and assay development
- Familiarity with fluorescence-based and/or lateral flow detection methods
- Knowledge of bioinformatics tools for CRISPR guide design
