About this job

The purpose of this role is to provide engineering management of the Singapore and Vietnam based engineering teams, the management of technical engineering solutions, ensuring that solutions are safe, technically feasible, buildable, and cost effective.

Responsible for, providing leadership for the technical aspects of high-tech Aluminium shipbuilding Projects and ensuring focus is maintained on the achievement of contractual requirements, customer satisfaction, safety and on time on budget results.

Task Management

  • Managing a Team of Engineers, Naval Architects, Designers and Drafters.
  • Provide technical and design expertise.
  • Scheduling of design deliverables to support project schedule.
  • Ensure vessel designs meet all contractual requirements and specifications.
  • Oversight of the technical review process for the procurement of all main equipment and materials.
  • Oversight of dealings with classification societies, flag states and any relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Responsible for the successful resolution of technical issues with OEMs, Client, Classification Societies and Flag states.
  • Technical Expert of Weight management and control throughout the vessel build process.
  • Technical Expert of Inclining Experiments and Lightship Surveys.
  • Technical Expert of Sea Trials Protocols including loading conditions.
  • Work closely with the General Manager, Engineering and Senior Management Group
  • High level contractual, negotiation and dispute resolution.
  • Adhere to and updating of company design standards.
  • Provide continual improvements to design with relevance to industry standards.

Interpersonal Management

  • Communicate effectively: This involves actively listening, clearly conveying information, and providing constructive feedback with all levels of staff.
  • Build trust and rapport: This involves being genuine, respectful, and dependable.
  • Ensure liaison with shipyard personal and management to ensure product performance is consistent with the aims of the organization.
  • Develop and maintain key external relationships with partners, customers, contractors, suppliers and official bodies and organisations.
  • Negotiate on behalf of the company, be able to accept realistic compromises when necessary.
  • Develop a strong network of industry suppliers, subcontractors, and contacts.

Information Management

  • Develop full understanding of vessel/product specifications and performance and educate internal/external stakeholders.
  • Develop full understanding of relevant classification and survey authority rules and regulations that affect the quality and performance of our products.
  • Responsible for, engineering management documentation and reporting.
  • Develop full understanding of scope and impact across different departments/projects/areas of business.
  • Assist Project Manager to quantify implications of decisions to other areas.

Personal Management

  • Look for opportunities to continue to develop professionally.
  • Show personal accountability for the achievement of objectives.
  • Keep up to date with the industry best practice and monitor actions of competitors.

    Essential:
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience as a Senior Design Engineer or Naval Architect.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing an engineering design department.
  • Proven history working with Aluminium in the Shipbuilding industry.
  • Formal Naval Architect or Mechanical/Marine Engineering qualifications.
  • Sound working knowledge of Classification Society Rules and Flag Regulations.
  • High level negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
  • Performance and outcome orientation.
  • Excellent interpersonal & leadership skills.
  • Experienced in contractual management.
  • Strong network of industry suppliers, subcontractors and contacts.
  • Mature and patient. Ideally experienced in working with other cultures.
