About the role:
SMITECH is seeking an experienced Safety and Health Officer / Workplace Safety and Health Officer (WSHO) to support workplace safety and health management for our M&E construction project site.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Project Manager, Construction Manager, site supervisors, subcontractors and project delivery team to implement WSH requirements, drive site safety compliance, conduct inspections, support risk management activities and promote a proactive safety culture across project operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and maintain the project Workplace Safety and Health system in accordance with applicable WSH requirements, project procedures and client requirements.
- Conduct regular site inspections, safety walks and compliance checks for M&E construction activities.
- Assist the project team in identifying workplace hazards, reviewing risk assessments and ensuring effective risk control measures are implemented.
- Review and monitor safe work procedures, method statements, permit-to-work controls and high-risk work activities.
- Conduct incident reporting, investigation support, root cause analysis and follow-up on corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate and conduct WSH briefings, toolbox meetings, safety inductions and site safety campaigns.
- Work with subcontractors to ensure safety compliance, proper documentation and timely closure of safety observations.
- Monitor site housekeeping, PPE compliance, lifting operations, work-at-height controls, hot works, confined space activities and other relevant construction safety requirements.
- Maintain proper WSH records, inspection reports, training records, incident reports and audit documentation.
- Liaise with client representatives, consultants, authorities and internal stakeholders on WSH matters where required.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen site safety performance and safety culture.
Requirements:
- Must be a registered Workplace Safety and Health Officer (WSHO) with MOM.
- Minimum three (3) years of post-registration and practical WSHO experience, preferably in construction, M&E, infrastructure or large-scale project environments.
- Strong working knowledge of Singapore WSH requirements, construction site safety practices and risk management processes.
- Practical experience in site inspections, incident investigation, risk assessment review, permit-to-work controls and subcontractor safety coordination.
- Experience supporting M&E construction works such as electrical, mechanical, ACMV, fire protection, plumbing, sanitary, ELV or related site activities will be advantageous.
- Able to communicate effectively with project teams, supervisors, workers, subcontractors and client representatives.
- Strong documentation, follow-up and reporting skills.
- Able to work independently on site while maintaining close coordination with project management.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office for WSH reporting, registers, tracking logs and documentation.
- Candidates should be prepared to work in a site-based environment on a 5.5-day work week.
