Head of Fertilizers

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and grow international physical fertilizer trading flows across approved markets.
• Leverage existing supplier and customer networks to originate new purchase and sales opportunities.
• Build and maintain relationships with producers, exporters, importers, distributors, blenders and institutional buyers.
• Negotiate and manage the full trade lifecycle, including pricing, contracts, financing, shipment, documentation, delivery, collections and claims.
• Manage bulk, break-bulk and containerised fertilizer transactions.
• Monitor fertilizer market trends, supply-demand conditions, seasonality, tenders, regulations, production costs and freight movements.
• Take ownership of desk P&L, trading margins, financing and working-capital costs, logistics costs, claims, credit losses and overall profitability.
• Manage counterparty, credit, inventory, price, freight and foreign-exchange risks within approved limits.
• Ensure efficient working-capital management and timely monitoring of receivables, inventory and trade exposures.
• Maintain accurate pipeline, position, exposure and profitability reporting.
• Ensure compliance with KYC, sanctions, anti-bribery, legal, credit and risk-management requirements.
• Build the desk progressively and recommend additional resources based on proven business volumes and profitability.

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of fertilizer trading and merchandising experience.
• Strong understanding of fertilizer specifications, pricing, seasonality, freight, port operations, trade finance, documentation, insurance, quality claims and regulatory requirements.
• Strong understanding of commodity price, counterparty, credit, foreign-exchange, freight, inventory and execution risks.
• Experience in African or other import-dependent emerging markets would be advantage.
