Class 4 Driver – Job Description

Job Summary
A Class 4 Driver is responsible for operating heavy vehicles (e.g., lorries, trucks above 3.5 tonnes) to transport materials, equipment, and goods safely and efficiently between sites, warehouses, and customers in the construction and manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Transport Operations
- Drive Class 4 vehicles to deliver construction materials, machinery, or manufactured goods.
- Transport items between manufacturing plants, warehouses, and project sites.
- Ensure timely collection and delivery according to schedules.
Loading & Unloading
- Assist with loading and unloading of goods, including heavy materials (e.g., cement, steel, equipment).
- Ensure cargo is properly secured to prevent damage or accidents.
Vehicle Maintenance
- Perform daily vehicle inspections (brakes, tires, lights, engine condition).
- Report faults, damages, or maintenance needs promptly.
- Maintain cleanliness and operational condition of assigned vehicle.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain delivery notes, logs, and transport records.
- Follow traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Ensure all necessary permits and licenses are valid and carried.
Safety & Site Support
- Adhere strictly to workplace safety rules (PPE, site protocols).
- Coordinate with site supervisors and forklift operators.
- Ensure safe driving practices, especially in construction zones.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Valid Class 4 driving license (required).
- Basic literacy and ability to handle delivery documentation.
Experience
- Previous experience in construction, logistics, or manufacturing preferred.
- Familiarity with transporting heavy or oversized loads is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies
- Good knowledge of road safety and traffic regulations.
- Ability to handle physically demanding tasks.
- Time management and punctuality.
- Basic mechanical knowledge is a plus.
Working Conditions
- Work may involve long hours, early starts, or overtime.
- Exposure to outdoor conditions and construction environments.
- Requires physical stamina and safe material handling.
