Hi! I’m Jon, and I run Homeground Gym & Pilates at Clementi.

I work closely with Jing, our Head of Instructor, to run the Pilates side of Homeground, and we're looking for a few more Pilates instructors to join our team.

We're mainly looking for instructors who can take on regular weekly classes, although we're also happy to hear from instructors who may only be available to cover classes from time to time.

Our group classes are intentionally kept small at a maximum of 4 members per class. We want our instructors to actually have the time and attention to coach every member properly instead of having to manage a big class.

Just as importantly, Jing and I want Homeground to be a nice place for our instructors to teach in.

Our admin team and instructors work very closely together. If you ever encounter an unreasonable member or any issue that shouldn't be yours to deal with, bring it to us and we'll handle it together. I don't expect an instructor to tolerate poor behaviour just because someone is a paying member.

Ideally, you should be able to come in, focus on coaching a good class, get to know your regulars, and enjoy teaching here.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll mainly be:

• Coaching equipment-based small-group Pilates classes
• Teaching a maximum of 4 members per class
• Coaching members with different levels of experience, including complete beginners
• Providing corrections, regressions and progressions where necessary
• Making sure members are exercising safely and with good form
• Creating a welcoming and enjoyable class experience
• Communicating with Jing and our admin team if there's anything about a member or class that we should know about

If you're interested in coaching 1-to-1 Private Pilates, there may be opportunities for that too.

Regular Slots We Currently Have Available

We're currently looking for instructors who can consistently take:

Weekdays

• 5.30pm and/or 6.45pm

Sunday

• 7.30am and/or 8.45am

You don't have to take all of them. Even if you can consistently commit to one or two slots every week, we're happy to have a chat.

Other Classes You Can Cover

We also occasionally need instructors to help cover other classes.

Weekdays:
7.30am, 8.45am, 11.15am, 12.30pm, 5.30pm, 6.45pm, 8pm, 9pm

Weekends:
7.30am, 8.45am, 10am, 11.15am, 12.30pm, 1.45pm, 3pm, 5.30pm, 6.45pm

There's no expectation for you to be available for all these timings. They're simply additional opportunities whenever your schedule allows.

Who We're Looking For

You should have a recognised Pilates instructor certification and be comfortable teaching equipment-based Pilates.

Experience is definitely a plus, but we're also looking at the person behind the certification.

We want instructors who are:

• Friendly and approachable
• Patient with beginners
• Attentive to members' form and safety
• Comfortable communicating with different types of people
• Reliable and punctual
• Willing to work together with the rest of our team

We care just as much about how you make members feel as your technical ability as an instructor.

A lot of our members aren't hardcore fitness people. Some may be completely new to Pilates, so being able to make someone feel comfortable, welcome and confident in class is very important to us.

Instructor Rate

$50 per group class

Every group class is capped at 4 members.

There may also be opportunities for additional classes and 1-to-1 Private Pilates sessions.

What's It Like Teaching at Homeground?

One thing Jing and I have worked quite hard to build is a team where the instructors and admins actually work together.

If there's a problem with a member, you don't have to deal with it alone. Tell us and we'll handle it together.

If there's something happening in class that our admin team should know about, communicate with us. Likewise, if there's something we can do operationally to make your classes run better, we'd like you to tell us too.

Our instructors shouldn't have to worry too much about membership, payment or behavioural issues. That's what the rest of the team is there for.

We want you to be able to come in, focus on your members and teach a good class.

At the end of the day, we're trying to make Homeground a pleasant place for both the people who exercise here and the people who work here.
