Job Description
The successful candidate will work with A/P Frank Erwin Rheindt on avian virus biosurveillance under a project on Assessing the risk of zoonotic avian influenza A viruses in domestic and wild birds in Singapore (BirdFluSG), a collaboration with DUKE-NUS under a NParks Biosurveillance Grant.
The main responsibilities of the position include assisting in planning and leading mistnetting sessions targeting migratory birds to detect avian influenza A viruses. This involves working closely with multiple parties such as DUKE-NUS collaborators, NParks liaisons and site managers, and leading the NUS Avian Evolution Lab Volunteer Group during fieldwork sessions. The candidate will lead tagging and tracking fieldwork, where GPS tags will be attached to target bird species to determine their migratory flight paths in the region, and habitat usage in Singapore.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (Life Science, Zoology, Biology, Environmental Science)
Skills:
- Physically fit, comfortable in outdoor environments. Knowledgeable in bird identification. Data analysis – such as Command Language, R or Python.
Experience:
- Knowledgeable in avian biodiversity. Experience conducting fieldwork, especially in tropical settings. Experience conducting mistnetting preferred, but not necessary.
