Head, Information Technology

About the role

AspenHealth is seeking an experienced and hands-on Head of Information Technology to lead the Group's technology function.

As a fast-growing SME, this role requires someone equally comfortable defining technology strategy, leading projects, writing technical specifications, troubleshooting production systems, negotiating with vendors, reviewing source code, optimising SQL performance, and mentoring developers.

You will oversee technology across the group, supporting clinical operations, enterprise systems, cybersecurity, infrastructure, software development, data, AI initiatives, and regulatory compliance.

You will lead a lean but highly capable team of developers and analysts, ensuring technology remains an enabler of operational excellence and future growth.

Key responsibilities

Business and Technology Leadership

• Develop and execute the Group's technology roadmap aligned with business objectives.

• Build and maintain an architecture that is secure, scalable and maintainable.

• Drive technology transformation across clinical, operational and corporate functions.

• Establish technology standards, governance and best practices.

• Partner functional leads in clinical operations, finance, HR, logistics to translate operational requirements into practical technology solutions

Software Development Leadership

• Provide technical leadership for all internally developed systems, including:

• Clinic Management System

• HR and Payroll

• Finance integrations

• Inventory & Logistics

• Patient Engagement

• Business Intelligence

• AI initiatives

• APIs and third-party integrations

Responsibilities include:

• Designing systems and setting standards with functional leads

• Reviewing architecture and code

• Project management and delivery

Infrastructure & Operations

Oversee:

• Servers

• Cloud platforms

• Networks

• Backups

• Disaster Recovery

• Microsoft environments

• Database platforms

• Identity Management

• Endpoint management

Cybersecurity & Compliance

Ensure appropriate governance over:

• Cybersecurity

• Data privacy

• Healthcare regulations

• Business continuity

• Disaster recovery

• Access control

• Security monitoring

• Vulnerability management

Develop practical policies appropriate for an SME healthcare environment.

Team Management

Lead and mentor the Group IT team by:

• Developing technical capability

• Conducting code reviews

• Setting engineering standards

• Establishing development methodologies

• Coaching future technical leaders

• Managing priorities and workloads

Promote a collaborative, ownership-driven culture.

Project Delivery

Lead technology projects from concept through implementation, including:

• Requirements gathering

• Vendor management

• Budgeting

• Solution design

• Risk management

• Implementation

• Post-implementation support

Balance rapid delivery with long-term maintainability.

Hands-on Technical Contribution

This role is expected to remain technically involved where appropriate, including:

• Reviewing source code

• Writing proof-of-concept solutions

• SQL optimisation

• Systems troubleshooting

• Architecture reviews

• Technical documentation

• Production issue resolution

This is a leadership role for someone who enjoys building, solving and delivering—not simply delegating.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business, or a related field.

• 12+ years of experience in software engineering and IT

• Experience in .NET, Entity Framework, MVC, C#, and web technologies preferred

• Expert proficiency in MSSQL and experience with database management, query and performance optimization.

• At least 5 years experience leading technical teams and working cross functionally in management capacity

• Experience managing both software development and infrastructure

• Prior experience in the healthcare industry and with enterprise systems (such as Finance / Accounting, ERP, WMS, HRMS) is highly valued.

• Experience managing technology in a multi-site organisation

• Healthcare industry experience is highly advantageous
