Job Summary

You will interpret technical drawings, measure and mark steel components, assemble structural steel frameworks, and perform fit-up inspections to ensure quality and safety in production and construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols to determine precise fitting and fabrication requirements
• Measure, locate, and mark cutting or bending lines on steel components considering material thickness and welding shrinkage
• Align, position, and secure structural steel parts such as beams, columns, base plates, and handrails using wedges, turnbuckles, jacks, and clamps
• Perform basic gas cutting, grinding, and tack welding to hold steel frameworks in place before final welding
• Conduct fit-up inspections to verify all dimensions, tolerances, and alignments meet project specifications
• Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and workshop machinery including grinders, drills, and saws safely
• Collaborate effectively with riggers, crane operators, and welders to ensure smooth and safe workflow
• Follow company safety guidelines and workplace safety regulations consistently while wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Required competencies and certifications

• Proven experience as a structural fitter or steel fabricator in building, construction, marine, or oil & gas sectors
• Ability to read and analyse complex engineering schematics and blueprints accurately
• Skilled in using mechanical tools, oxy-acetylene cutting torches, and performing basic fit-up welding
• Strong mathematical skills to take measurements and calculate tolerances precisely
• Physical stamina to handle heavy lifting and work at heights safely

Preferred competencies and qualifications

• Technical certification or apprenticeship in Welding, Fitting, or Mechanical Technology
