Lead Fullstack Software Engineer

Our client is a Singapore public-sector digital innovation unit that builds and scales web-based products to modernise how a major government organisation operates. This role sits within a unit that owns engineering standards and culture, working on both microservice and monolithic web applications.

What You'll Do

• Design, build and ship TypeScript-based web applications end-to-end — frontend, backend, relational database design, and automated testing (unit, integration, and end-to-end)
• Lead web application development efforts as a technical lead or senior individual contributor, without formal people management responsibility
• Help set and evolve engineering standards and coding guidelines across a department-wide engineering unit of 20-25 developers
• Support technical assessments and professional development for engineering hires
• Clearly explain and justify architecture and design decisions, and weigh trade-offs across development, deployment, monitoring and observability
• Champion developer-experience tooling (e.g. linting, Git hooks) and drive their adoption as team standards
• Give constructive, high-quality feedback in code reviews to improve readability, maintainability and efficiency
• Run engineering masterclasses, tech talks or knowledge-sharing sessions to raise the engineering bar across teams

Core Key Skills

• At least 8 years of hands-on software engineering experience, including full-stack TypeScript web development
• Proven experience as a technical lead or senior engineer guiding architecture and design decisions
• Strong grounding in relational database design
• Solid experience with automated testing practices (unit, integration, end-to-end)
• Working knowledge of deployment, monitoring and observability practices for web applications
• Experience with developer-experience tooling such as linters and Git hooks
• Strong communication skills, comfortable presenting to and influencing engineering teams
• Experience contributing to or shaping engineering standards/coding guidelines across teams

Nice to Have

• Experience mentoring or upskilling junior-to-mid engineers
• Exposure to public-sector, defence, or other regulated-industry engineering environments
• Experience running technical interviews or assessments for hiring
