Role Overview
The Automation Engineer (Marine Automation & Cloud Systems) will serve as the link between vessel operations and digital technologies, leading the development and testing of reliable marine automation and control systems. The role will also involve designing and implementing cloud infrastructure to support advanced AI and data-driven solutions. The ideal candidate should have hands-on professional or research experience spanning the technology stack, from shipboard PLC programming and data acquisition to cloud-based data analytics and user-friendly web applications.
Key Responsibilities
- . Marine Automation & Control Systems
- Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot PLC software for marine automation and vessel control systems.
- Design, model, and validate control systems through simulations using MATLAB and other relevant industry-standard tools.
- Develop and optimize HMI interfaces to provide intuitive operator controls and clear, real-time visualization of vessel data.
- 2. Cloud Architecture & AI Performance Analytics
- Design and manage scalable cloud infrastructure using AWS, Azure, or equivalent platforms to support vessel performance monitoring and remote condition-based monitoring.
- Implement and maintain servers, databases, and data pipelines that support AI-powered vessel performance analysis and predictive maintenance applications.
- 3. Software Development & Systems Integration
- Develop web-based graphical interfaces to present shipboard system data and AI-generated vessel performance insights.
- Develop efficient and reliable software using Python, Java, and C for both research prototypes and production-ready maritime applications.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant engineering, computer science, automation, or related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in PLC programming and control system modelling/simulation.
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with commercial cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or equivalent, including data architecture and infrastructure design.
- Proficiency in Python, Java, and C programming languages.
- Proven experience developing web-based GUIs and data visualization interfaces.
- Strong interest in maritime decarbonization, emerging technologies, system design, prototyping, testing, and validation.
