Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior UNIX/Linux Engineer (L3) to design, build, configure, secure, and support enterprise UNIX/Linux infrastructure across Development, Test, UAT, and Production environments.
The role requires strong hands-on expertise in Linux infrastructure, security hardening, high availability, storage, automation, virtualisation, and cloud technologies. The successful candidate will work closely with application, database, network, cloud, and security teams to deliver reliable and secure infrastructure for enterprise projects.
This is a senior hands-on engineering position requiring strong troubleshooting capabilities and ownership of infrastructure implementation through deployment and operational handover.
Key Responsibilities
Install, configure, build, and maintain enterprise UNIX/Linux servers.
Build and configure Development, Test, UAT, and Production environments.
Perform Linux server configuration and security hardening based on established standards.
Configure storage, networking, security controls, and operating system services.
Support infrastructure design, implementation, migration, deployment, and cutover activities.
Work closely with application, database, network, cloud, storage, and cybersecurity teams.
Participate in project planning, technical design reviews, and infrastructure implementation activities.
Ensure infrastructure readiness for application onboarding, releases, and production deployments.
Configure and support high-availability and clustering solutions.
Develop Shell and Python scripts to automate server provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and operational activities.
Implement configuration management and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
Standardise server builds, configurations, and deployment procedures.
Perform operating system patching, vulnerability remediation, and security updates.
Troubleshoot complex L3 operating system, infrastructure, storage, performance, and connectivity issues.
Monitor system capacity and performance and recommend improvements where required.
Support disaster recovery planning, implementation, testing, and documentation.
Ensure infrastructure complies with applicable security, organisational, and regulatory requirements.
Develop and maintain technical design documents, build documents, SOPs, operational runbooks, and knowledge articles.
Conduct knowledge transfer and handover to operations and support teams.
Required Skills
Minimum 10 years of relevant UNIX/Linux infrastructure engineering and administration experience.
Strong hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Oracle Linux.
Strong experience with enterprise UNIX/Linux server installation, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting.
Experience implementing operating system security hardening and vulnerability remediation.
Strong knowledge of Linux patching, system services, access controls, and security configuration.
Experience with high-availability and clustering technologies.
Hands-on experience with VCS and VCS FSS or similar enterprise clustering solutions.
Strong Shell scripting skills for infrastructure and operational automation.
Working knowledge of Python for scripting and automation.
Experience with VMware virtualisation environments.
Experience working with AWS and/or Microsoft Azure cloud environments.
Strong understanding of enterprise storage technologies including SAN, NAS, and LVM.
Experience with server provisioning, configuration management, and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
Good understanding of networking concepts and Linux network configuration.
Experience supporting enterprise production environments and resolving complex L3 incidents.
Experience with capacity planning and system performance analysis.
Knowledge of disaster recovery principles and implementation.
Strong technical documentation and knowledge-transfer capabilities.
Good analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Skills
Experience with IBM MQ would be advantageous.
Experience developing infrastructure automation scripts, playbooks, and standardised server build processes.
Exposure to large-scale infrastructure transformation, migration, or modernisation projects.
Experience supporting highly available, business-critical enterprise environments.
Relevant Linux, cloud, VMware, or infrastructure certifications would be advantageous.
