Job Purpose
To assist in the safe and efficient operation of the vessel and support the Master/Boatman in carrying out marine transportation, lighterage, cargo handling and other assigned vessel-related operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Vessel Operations
o Assist the Master/Boatman in the safe operation and navigation of the vessel.
o Assist with berthing, unberthing, mooring and unmooring operations.
o Handle ropes, mooring lines, anchor sand other deck equipment as required.
o Maintain proper lookout and assist during vessel movements and operations.
o Follow instructions given by the Master/Boatman at all times.
2. Cargo and Lighterage Operations
o Assist with loading, unloading, shifting and securing cargo on board.
o Ensure cargo is properly secured and safely handled during transportation.
o Assist with delivery and collection of cargo, stores, equipment or marine supplies.
o Maintain the cleanliness and safe working condition of cargo and deck areas.
3. Deck and Vessel Maintenance
o Carry out routine cleaning and housekeeping of the vessel.
o Assist with painting, chipping, greasing and general maintenance work.
o Assist with basic inspection of ropes, mooring equipment, deck machinery and other vessel equipment.
o Report any defects, damage or unsafe conditions to the Master/Boatman or supervisor.
4. Safety Responsibilities
o Comply strictly with company safety procedures, vessel safety requirements and applicable maritime regulations.
o Wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while carrying out work.
o Participate in toolbox meetings, safety briefings and emergency drills.
o Assist during emergency situations, including fire, man-overboard and other vessel emergencies.
o Immediately report accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe working conditions.
o Responsible for carrying out assigned duties safely and properly, maintaining good house keeping and assisting the Master/Boatman to ensure the vessel operates safely and efficiently.
5. General Duties
o Assist with routine checks of the vessel, equipment, tools and machinery.
o Assist in taking on fuel, water, stores and other supplies when required.
o Maintain proper housekeeping and cleanliness of the vessel.
o Assist other crew members in daily vessel operations.
o Perform any other reasonable duties related to vessel operations as assigned by the Master/Boatman or management.
Work Requirements
- Willing to work on board vessels and perform outdoor and physically demanding work.
- Able to work according to vessel operating schedules, including weekends, public holidays and extended hours when required.
- Able to work safely as part of a marine crew.
- Must comply with all company, vessel, MPA and applicable maritime safety requirements.
- Relevant maritime certificates, training or experience will be an advantage.
- Background in a similar or related role strongly preferred.
- Only Singaporean/ PR / Malaysian are welcome.
