Managing Director

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Managing Director to oversee the company’s overall business operations, strategic development and performance in the construction industry.

The role carries substantial management responsibility and requires strong leadership, commercial judgement and the ability to operate effectively in a high-pressure and demanding environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the company’s overall business operations, financial performance and strategic direction.
• Lead major construction projects from planning, tendering and contract negotiation through to completion.
• Manage multiple high-value construction projects under tight deadlines and significant commercial pressure.
• Oversee project budgets, costs, contracts, cash flow and profitability.
• Lead senior management, project teams and operational staff and maintain high performance standards.
• Develop new business opportunities and maintain relationships with key clients, contractors, consultants and business partners.
• Attend client meetings, business dinners, networking events and corporate functions as required for business development and relationship management.
• Represent the company in high-level business negotiations and discussions.
• Undertake regular domestic and overseas business travel to meet clients, business partners and project stakeholders.
• Resolve urgent operational, manpower, contractual and project-related matters.
• Visit and work at construction sites and operational locations when required.
• Ensure compliance with relevant contractual, safety and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Business Management or a related discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant working experience, including substantial senior management experience in the construction industry.
• Proven experience in managing construction businesses and large-scale construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of construction contracts, project costing, budgeting and commercial management.
• Strong leadership, negotiation, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and critical business matters simultaneously.
• Able to work effectively under significant pressure and tight deadlines.
• Comfortable working in construction-site environments involving dust, noise, heat, outdoor conditions and other challenging site conditions.
• Willing to work beyond normal working hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays, when required by business or project needs.
• Willing to undertake frequent business entertainment, client meetings, networking activities and domestic and overseas travel.
• High level of resilience, flexibility, accountability and commitment required.

Working Conditions

This is a hands-on senior management position involving significant business and project responsibilities.

The successful candidate is required to work in a high-pressure and demanding construction environment, with exposure to construction sites, dust, noise, heat and outdoor conditions. The role also involves irregular working hours, frequent business entertainment and regular domestic and overseas travel, depending on business and project requirements.
