Senior Occupational Therapist

The Senior Occupational Therapist provides basic to complex cases of occupational therapy services to residents of the Adult Disability Home and clients of the Day Activity Centre, with a focus on promoting functional independence, meaningful participation, safety, quality of life, and maintenance of abilities.

The role provides clinical leadership within Occupational Therapy and works closely with the Head of Therapy and Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to develop, implement, and continuously improve therapy services for adults with physical, intellectual and associated disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Practice and Service Delivery

• Provide comprehensive occupational therapy assessment, intervention, review, and evaluation for residents and DAC clients.
• Assess functional abilities and needs related to activities of daily living, cognition, sensory processing, psychosocial functioning, meaningful occupation, participation, and environmental needs.
• Formulate ICPs, individualised treatment goals and intervention programmes in collaboration with beneficiaries, caregivers, support staff, and the MDT.
• Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate occupational therapy programmes aimed at promoting, restoring, improving, and/or maintaining functional abilities and participation in ADLs, social and recreational activities
• Provide appropriate skilled interventions and ensure proper clinical assessments for ADH residents and DAC clients, with clear documentation.
• Develop and implement programmes encompassing rehabilitation, maintenance, preventive, wellness, meaningful social, recreational activities, and community participation based on collaborative, person-centric and holistic care philosophy.
• Review beneficiaries’ progress and modify treatment goals and intervention programmes according to changing needs.
• Complete annual therapy review for the assigned case load.

Care Planning and Multidisciplinary Practice

• Participate in Individual Care Plan (ICP) reviews, case conferences, admission and review processes, and other relevant MDT meetings.
• Provide professional recommendations and updates regarding beneficiaries’ functional status, progress, risks, and therapy needs.
• Collaborate closely with Physiotherapists, Speech Therapists, Therapy staff, Care staff, Social Service staff, and other professionals to provide holistic and coordinated care.
• Identify appropriate ADH residents and DAC clients for participation in social, recreational, volunteer, and meaningful activity programmes.

Assistive Technology, Equipment, and Environmental Management

• Assess and recommend appropriate assistive technology, adaptive equipment, positioning solutions, and environmental modifications to enhance independence, safety, and participation.
• Assess and recommend appropriate wheelchairs and related equipment in consultation with the Head of Therapy and relevant professional leads.
• Coordinate the acquisition, maintenance, repair, and appropriate use of Occupational Therapy equipment, assistive devices, and wheelchairs.
• Provide guidance to staff and caregivers on the safe and effective use of prescribed equipment and assistive devices.

Clinical Leadership, Supervision, and Staff Development

• Provide clinical guidance, mentoring, and support to junior therapists, Therapy Aides, Care staff, volunteers, and other relevant personnel within the scope of Occupational Therapy.
• Support the Head of Therapy in developing staff competencies and maintaining appropriate standards of clinical practice.
• Conduct or contribute to training and competency development in areas such as functional care, safe transfers, positioning, assistive equipment, and meaningful activities.
• Promote evidence-based and person-centred Occupational Therapy practice across the ADH and DAC.

Quality Improvement and Service Development

• Work with the Head of Therapy and Rehabilitation team to review workflows, identify service gaps, and recommend improvements.
• Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of therapy service standards, outcome measures, and quality improvement initiatives by management and Head of Therapy.
• Support audits, data collection, outcome monitoring, and service reporting where required.
• Ensure timely and accurate clinical documentation, progress monitoring, reassessment, and goal adjustments for all beneficiaries.
• Contribute to the continuous development of the Therapy Model of Care for the ADH and DAC.

Other Responsibilities

• Work independently in clinical assessment and decision-making while escalating complex clinical or operational matters appropriately to the Head of Therapy.
• Maintain professional standards and comply with relevant organisational policies, clinical guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
• Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by the Head of Therapy or Management.

Job Requirements

• Possess a recognised Degree / Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
• Full registration with the Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC) and eligibility to practise as an Occupational Therapist in Singapore.
• At least five years of relevant clinical experience.
• Experience in adult disability, intellectual disability, rehabilitation, community care, nursing home, or social service settings is preferred.
• Experience in functional assessment, assistive technology, environmental modification, and multidisciplinary rehabilitation is preferred.
• Strong clinical reasoning, communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and contribute effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience in supervising, mentoring, or training therapy / support staff would be an advantage.
• Membership with the Singapore Association of Occupational Therapists (SAOT) would be an advantage.
• ICE certification from SIT & AHPC Supervisory certificate will be considered as an advantage.
