Brief Description & Role
This role is responsible for performing manual soldering, touch-up, and rework activities on PCBAs and electronic assemblies in accordance with approved drawings, BOMs, work instructions, customer requirements, and applicable IPC workmanship standards. The Soldering Technician supports production, engineering development, and rework activities, including RF tuning support where required, while ensuring good workmanship, ESD compliance, proper handling of materials, and accurate process records.
Responsibilities
1. Manual Soldering: Perform manual soldering of electronic components, connectors, cables, harnesses, and PCBAs in accordance with drawings, BOMs, work instructions, and approved process requirements.
2. Rework and Touch-Up: Carry out soldering rework, touch-up, component replacement, de-golding, tinning, lead forming, lead cutting, and localized cleaning activities when required, following documented rework instructions and approval processes.
3. Workmanship Quality: Inspect own soldering work and support solder joint verification using applicable IPC workmanship criteria to ensure there are no defects such as solder bridging, insufficient solder, excessive solder, cold joints, poor wetting, solder balls, lifted pads, component damage, wrong orientation, or missing components.
4. Production and Engineering Support: Support production builds, engineering development builds, prototype activities, RF tuning support, and urgent rework activities to meet quality and delivery requirements.
5. ESD and Material Handling: Follow ESD control requirements, proper component handling, packaging, storage, and cleanliness practices to prevent damage to sensitive electronic assemblies.
6. Process Documentation: Record soldering, rework, touch-up, inspection, traceability, and process information accurately in checklists, travelers, rework records, inspection forms, or other required documentation.
7. Defect Escalation: Identify and report abnormal soldering conditions, workmanship defects, damaged parts, process issues, or material discrepancies promptly to the supervisor, process engineer, quality team, or relevant stakeholders.
8. Tool and Equipment Control: Use soldering irons, hot air tools, microscopes, magnifiers, fixtures, hand tools, and related equipment properly, and ensure tools are maintained in good working condition with calibration status verified where applicable.
9. Housekeeping and Safety: Maintain good housekeeping, workplace discipline, safe working practices, and compliance with company procedures at soldering and rework workstations.
10. Continuous Improvement: Support improvement activities related to soldering quality, rework reduction, process control, first-pass yield improvement, and production efficiency.
