Deputy Director – Projects (Construction)

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the delivery of large-scale construction projects across design, pre-construction, procurement, construction and handover.
  • Ensure projects meet approved quality, safety, programme, cost and contractual requirements.
  • Monitor project schedules, procurement, subcontractor awards, site progress and project cashflow.
  • Review designs for value engineering and constructability and oversee design coordination.
  • Oversee project cost reports, progress claims, variations, subcontractor payments and commercial matters.
  • Ensure compliance with construction laws, regulations, contractual obligations and H&S requirements.
  • Manage project risks, claims, defects, handover and post-DLP rectification works.
  • Provide technical and commercial support for tenders, pricing, negotiations and client presentations.
  • Lead and manage the Project Management team, including Project/Senior Project Managers, Engineers, Contracts and BIM Managers.
  • Oversee manpower planning, resource allocation, performance management, training and team development.
  • Lead key client, design, pre-construction and internal project meetings.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, subcontractors and relevant authorities.
  • Provide regular project updates to senior management.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Project Management, Building/Construction, Engineering or related discipline.
  • Relevant professional qualification/chartership such as CIOB preferred.
  • Extensive experience delivering large-scale construction projects, preferably office new-build projects valued at £50m+.
  • Strong pre-construction, design, procurement and construction experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction processes, regulations, standards and contractual requirements.
  • Proven experience in project planning, cost control, subcontractor management and stakeholder management.
  • Experience with BIM and Conject.
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation and people-management skills.
  • High emotional intelligence with a collaborative, proactive and safety-focused approach.
