Job Summary

MANI IYER MESS & CATERING PTE. LTD. is an established Indian vegetarian restaurant and catering business located at 5 Hindoo Road, Singapore.

We are looking for a friendly, responsible and service-oriented Customer Service Crew / Waiter to join our restaurant team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for greeting customers, taking food orders, serving food and beverages, handling customer enquiries, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene, and supporting the smooth daily operation of the restaurant.

The candidate must have good English and Tamil communication skills to communicate effectively with customers and team members.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

• Greet and attend to customers in a friendly, professional and courteous manner.

• Welcome customers and assist them with seating and general enquiries.

• Explain menu items, ingredients, food options and available promotions to customers when required.

• Take customer orders accurately and communicate orders clearly to the kitchen.

• Confirm special requests, dietary requirements and other customer preferences where applicable.

• Follow up on orders and ensure food is served to customers promptly.

• Respond professionally to customer feedback, enquiries and complaints.

• Escalate customer issues to the supervisor or management when necessary.

Order Taking & Food Service

• Take dine-in, takeaway and other food orders accurately.

• Serve food and beverages to customers in a timely and professional manner.

• Check that orders are complete and correct before serving.

• Clear tables and maintain clean and organised dining areas.

• Assist customers with takeaway orders and ensure all items are properly packed.

• Support the restaurant during busy periods, weekends and public holidays.

• Assist with catering and bulk orders when required.

Cashier & Payment Support

• Handle customer payments accurately when assigned.

• Operate the POS/cashier system and process cashless and other approved payment methods.

• Issue receipts and ensure correct payment collection.

• Maintain accuracy when handling cash and customer transactions.

• Assist with reconciliation of daily sales or cashier records when required.

Food Hygiene & Cleanliness

• Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and food-service hygiene.

• Wear appropriate uniform and maintain a clean and professional appearance.

• Wash hands regularly and follow proper hygiene practices when handling food and serving customers.

• Keep dining tables, chairs, service areas and customer-facing areas clean and organised.

• Clean and sanitise tables, utensils, crockery and other service items as required.

• Follow Singapore food safety and hygiene requirements and the restaurant's internal hygiene procedures.

• Ensure food is handled and served safely.

Restaurant Operations

• Assist the team with opening and closing duties.

• Replenish service items, cutlery, tissues, takeaway containers and other supplies when required.

• Assist in checking and maintaining stock of service items.

• Work closely with kitchen staff and other team members to ensure smooth restaurant operations.

• Maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment for customers.

• Assist with catering preparation, packing and service when required.

• Perform other restaurant-related duties assigned by the supervisor or management.

Requirements

• Previous experience in customer service, restaurant, F&B, waiter/waitress or food-service operations is preferred.

• Good spoken English is mandatory.

• Good spoken Tamil is mandatory for communication with customers and team members.

• Able to communicate politely and effectively with customers.

• Friendly, courteous and service-oriented personality.

• Good listening and communication skills.

• Able to take food orders accurately.

• Basic ability to read and understand menu items and order instructions.

• Good personal hygiene and cleanliness practices.

• Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices is preferred.

• Able to work in a fast-paced restaurant environment.

• Able to stand and move around for extended periods during working hours.

• Responsible, punctual, reliable and hardworking.

• Able to work weekends and public holidays according to the restaurant's operating schedule.

Added Advantages

• Previous experience in an Indian restaurant or vegetarian restaurant.

• Experience with South Indian or North Indian food and familiarity with Indian menu items.

• Experience operating a POS/cashier system.

• Experience handling takeaway and delivery orders.

• Experience in catering or bulk food orders.

• Experience dealing with customer enquiries and complaints.

• Additional language skills will be an advantage.

• Experience working in a busy restaurant environment will be an advantage.
