Associate (Family Law)

Beyond Legal LLC is a full-service Singapore law firm with an established Family Law practice advising and representing clients across a broad spectrum of matrimonial and family matters.

We are looking for an Associate with approximately 2 to 5 years’ post-qualification experience (PQE) to join our Family Law team.

This role is suited for a lawyer with experience in family and matrimonial matters who is ready to take greater ownership of files, deepen their advocacy and client management skills, and develop their practice within a collaborative and dynamic firm.

The successful candidate will work closely with our Head of Family Law Mr. Clement Yong, and the wider legal team, with meaningful involvement across both contentious and non-contentious family matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise and represent clients across a range of family and matrimonial matters, including divorce, ancillary matters, child custody, care and control, access, maintenance, personal protection matters and other related proceedings.

• Manage matters from initial consultation through to resolution, including taking instructions, advising clients on strategy and procedure, preparing documentation and managing timelines.

• Draft and review pleadings, affidavits, submissions, settlement proposals, correspondence, consent orders and other court documents.

• Conduct legal research and provide clear, practical and considered advice to clients.

• Attend and conduct court hearings, case conferences, mediations, negotiations and other proceedings appropriate to the Associate's level of experience.

• Prepare for contested hearings and trials, including evidence review, preparation of witnesses, hearing bundles, authorities and written submissions.

• Engage and negotiate with opposing counsel and other relevant parties with a view to achieving practical and effective outcomes for clients.

• Work with clients on sensitive and often highly personal matters with professionalism, empathy and sound judgement.

• Take responsibility for matter progression, court deadlines, client communications and file management.

• Work closely with senior lawyers, paralegals and the firm's Operations team to ensure matters are managed efficiently.

• Contribute to the Family Law practice through knowledge sharing, legal updates, articles and business development initiatives where appropriate.

Requirements

• Singapore-qualified lawyer with approximately 2 to 5 years’ PQE.

• Prior experience in family and matrimonial law.

• Experience handling matters before the Singapore Courts and familiarity with Family Justice Courts procedures.

• Strong legal research, drafting and analytical skills.

• Good advocacy and negotiation skills, with an interest in continuing to develop both.

• Ability to manage files and client relationships with an appropriate level of independence while working collaboratively with senior lawyers.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, particularly when dealing with clients in sensitive or emotionally challenging circumstances.

• Meticulous, organised and able to manage competing deadlines across multiple matters.

• Practical, solutions-oriented and comfortable working in a dynamic legal environment.

• Strong command of written and spoken English. Proficiency in other languages or dialects would be an advantage.
