The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on a 24-month contract at the Policy, Curriculum and Leadership Department.
Project Title: Teacher leadership to build school capacity for students with educational support needs
Project Introduction: This research project examines how Teacher Leaders in Educational Support contribute to building school capacity to support students with educational support needs, particularly in relation to student motivation and engagement. Adopting an exploratory qualitative approach across primary and secondary schools in Singapore, the study investigates how teacher leaders interpret and enact their roles, work with school leaders, middle leaders and teachers, and contribute to strengthening instructional, relational and organizational capacity within schools. The study also seeks to identify the characteristics of effective teacher leadership in educational support, as well as the challenges teacher leaders encounter and how they respond to them. Findings from the study are intended to deepen understanding of teacher leadership in this emerging area and inform policy, professional learning and school practices for supporting students with educational support needs.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, Social Sciences or a related field.
Interest in educational research, with a focus on areas such as teacher leadership, educational support, student motivation and engagement, or school improvement.
Prior teaching experience and/or relevant professional experience in education or educational settings.
Knowledge of or experience with qualitative research methods would be advantageous.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage research data and documentation systematically.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a research team.
Experience with qualitative data analysis software (e.g., NVivo) would be an advantage.
Responsibilities:
Conduct literature searches and assist with literature reviews.
Support the recruitment, liaison, and scheduling of participating schools and research participants.
Assist with the preparation and administration of research materials and documentation.
Support qualitative data collection, including semi-structured interviews, as required.
Organize, manage, and maintain interview transcripts, documents and other research data in accordance with research ethics and data management requirements.
Assist with qualitative data coding and analysis using NVivo or other relevant software.
Support the preparation of research summaries, presentations, reports, and other project outputs.
Assist with project administration, documentation, and coordination.
Any other research-related duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator.
