Role Overview

We are seeking a Trade Operations Specialist to support the operational and commercial performance of container shipping services. The successful candidate will coordinate vessel schedules, cargo allocation, equipment availability and port activities to ensure reliable service delivery and effective utilisation of vessel capacity.

The role requires close collaboration with regional offices, terminals, agents, commercial teams and service partners to resolve operational issues and improve overall trade performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and monitor container-vessel schedules across assigned trade routes.
  • Manage cargo allocation and vessel capacity to maximise utilisation and commercial returns.
  • Monitor bookings, load factors, cargo flows and equipment availability.
  • Work with commercial teams to prioritise cargo and manage space allocation.
  • Coordinate with ports, terminals, agents and regional offices on vessel calls and operational requirements.
  • Monitor schedule reliability and respond promptly to delays, port congestion or service disruptions.
  • Support vessel-planning activities, including port rotations, connection planning and transshipment arrangements.
  • Ensure the timely repositioning and availability of empty containers.
  • Track trade performance, operational costs and key service indicators.
  • Prepare reports on vessel utilisation, cargo volumes, schedule performance and operational exceptions.
  • Investigate operational issues and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Support the development and improvement of trade processes and operating procedures.
  • Maintain accurate operational information across relevant shipping systems.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects and operational requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, Supply Chain or a related discipline.
  • Approximately three to five years of experience in container shipping, liner operations, trade management or vessel planning.
  • Good understanding of container-shipping operations, port activities and trade routes.
  • Familiarity with vessel capacity management, cargo allocation and container-equipment planning.
  • Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and relevant shipping or operational systems.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Able to respond to urgent operational matters outside regular working hours when required.
