Laboratory Analyst
About this job
Join us and make every day taste better
Advanced Flavors & Fragrances is a homegrown flavour house, wholly Singaporean-owned. We create and manufacture flavours for food and beverage brands across the Asia-Pacific, and we carry the heritage of VKA, founded by Master Flavourist Victor Koh, Southeast Asia's first flavourist, who pioneered and shaped the region's taste.
We are looking for a Laboratory Analyst to run our laboratory across analytical, quality and applications work.
Your future position
You will be the hands of the laboratory: running instruments, testing batches, preparing samples and keeping the laboratory in order so that the creation and applications teams have the data and materials they need.
In this role you will:
Run GC-MS analyses, including headspace and liquid injection, following AFF's validated methods.
Test incoming raw materials and production batches against specification: visual, odour, refractive index, specific gravity, flash point and GC profile.
Prepare flavour samples and evaluation bases for the creation and applications teams, and for customer submissions.
Carry out routine instrument care and maintenance on the laboratory's chromatography equipment.
Operate the accelerated shelf-life chamber and record stability results.
Maintain consumable stocks, calibration records, instrument logbooks and chemical labelling.
Support the commissioning of new laboratory equipment, with manufacturer training provided.
Grow into method development, GC-olfactometry and specification work as your experience builds.
You will report to the Creation Manager and work daily with the creation team.
You
You are careful at the bench, comfortable with instruments, and interested in how flavour is built and tested.
You bring:
A diploma or degree in chemistry, applied chemistry, chemical process technology, food science or a related discipline.
At least one year of hands-on experience running GC or GC-MS in a laboratory setting. Any instrument make is welcome.
Working knowledge of chromatogram interpretation and mass spectral library matching.
Good record keeping and the discipline to follow a method exactly as written.
Curiosity about flavour and food, and the wish to develop into a technical specialist over time.
Experience in a flavour or fragrance laboratory is a strong advantage. Experience in a food or contract testing laboratory is also welcome.
