Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Purchaser to join a marine organisation and manage the procurement of marine equipment, spare parts, materials, and services. The successful candidate will work closely with technical, operations, warehouse, and commercial teams to ensure materials and services are sourced competitively and delivered on time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day purchasing activities for marine equipment, spare parts, components, and services.
  • Source and evaluate suppliers, manufacturers, and service providers.
  • Request and compare quotations to achieve competitive pricing and suitable commercial terms.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, and delivery schedules with suppliers.
  • Prepare and process purchase orders in accordance with company procedures.
  • Follow up closely with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
  • Coordinate with technical and operations teams to understand purchasing requirements and specifications.
  • Review technical specifications and ensure purchased items meet required standards.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local and international suppliers.
  • Identify alternative suppliers and sourcing opportunities to improve cost efficiency and supply reliability.
  • Monitor inventory levels and support the timely replenishment of critical spare parts.
  • Handle urgent procurement requirements for vessels, including breakdown and emergency spare parts.
  • Coordinate logistics, freight, and delivery arrangements where required.
  • Verify invoices, delivery documents, and purchase orders for accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records and supplier information.
  • Monitor supplier performance, including pricing, quality, delivery, and responsiveness.
  • Support cost-saving initiatives and continuous improvement of procurement processes.
  • Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies and relevant marine industry requirements.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain, Procurement, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of purchasing or procurement experience, preferably within the marine, offshore, shipping, engineering, or industrial equipment industry.
  • Experience sourcing marine spare parts, machinery components, technical equipment, or engineering services will be advantageous.
  • Strong supplier negotiation and relationship-management skills.
  • Good understanding of purchasing processes, quotations, purchase orders, and delivery coordination.
  • Able to read and understand technical specifications and equipment requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple purchase requests and urgent requirements simultaneously.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with ERP or procurement systems.
  • Strong commercial awareness and cost-conscious mindset.
