Relief Special Education / Early Intervention Teacher

A Relief Special Education / Early Intervention Teacher provides temporary or ad-hoc teaching and learning support for children with special educational needs, developmental delays, or learning difficulties. The teacher supports individual and small-group activities while following each child’s learning goals and intervention plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct individual and small-group learning and early intervention activities.
- Support children with developmental, communication, social, behavioural, sensory and learning needs.
- Follow Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) and lesson plans prepared by the centre.
- Assist with speech, language, pre-academic, fine-motor, gross-motor and social skills activities.
- Use visual supports, prompting, modelling and structured teaching strategies where appropriate.
- Support children in following routines, instructions and classroom expectations.
- Monitor and record the child’s participation, progress and areas requiring further support.
- Maintain a safe, structured and positive learning environment.
- Communicate observations and relevant updates to the main teacher or supervisor.
- Assist with classroom preparation, learning materials and clean-up.
- Provide cover for teachers who are absent, on leave or unavailable.
Requirements:
- Experience working with children, preferably children with special needs or developmental delays.
- Relevant qualifications in Special Education, Early Childhood, Psychology, Education, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy or a related field are an advantage.
- Patient, caring and comfortable working with children who have different learning needs.
- Able to follow instructions, lesson plans and centre procedures.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Prior experience in a special education or early intervention setting is preferred but not mandatory.
