GL Accountant - Energy Trading firm (Japanese speaker)

Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Japanese-speaking General Ledger Accountant to join the finance team based in Singapore. This position will be responsible for overseeing financial accounting and reporting activities for the organisation's Japan-related entities, ensuring the integrity of accounting records and the timely completion of month-end and year-end close processes. The successful candidate will handle journal postings, account reconciliations, intercompany transactions, statutory reporting support, and audit coordination, while partnering closely with stakeholders across Japan and the wider global finance organisation. The role also offers exposure to process improvement initiatives, finance transformation projects, and ERP optimisation efforts within a fast-paced international business.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should possess a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, with at least two years of relevant experience in general ledger accounting, financial reporting, or Record-to-Report functions.
Professional qualifications such as CPA, ACCA, or CA will be advantageous.
Candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of IFRS, while familiarity with Japanese GAAP would be beneficial.
Experience working in multinational organisations, shared service environments, or the energy, commodities, or trading sectors will be viewed favourably.
Strong systems knowledge, including exposure to ERP platforms such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics 365, or similar, is preferred, alongside advanced Excel capabilities.
Business-level Japanese (JLPT N1 or equivalent) and strong English communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with stakeholders across Japan and the global organisation.
