Vessel Accounting Manager

We are looking for a Vessel Accounting manager for one of our global shipping clients. This role will lead a team and oversee vessel accounting, OPEX reporting and invoicing, while working closely with shipowners and stakeholders across multiple countries. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting and team-management experience, preferably within the shipping or ship management industry. Experience in managing external clients, developing teams and driving process improvements, automation or AI adoption will be an advantage.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the Vessel Accounting and Invoicing team.
- Oversee vessel accounting, OPEX reporting, invoicing, vessel funding and financial controls.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to shipowners and internal stakeholders.
- Monitor vessel OPEX, funding requirements and significant expenditure, following up on delayed approvals and outstanding matters.
- Serve as a key finance contact for shipowners and work closely with Vessel Managers, operational teams and regional stakeholders.
- Review budget variances and ensure adequate vessel funding to support operational requirements.
- Strengthen team capability, accountability and service standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve and standardise finance processes.
- Support system enhancements and the practical adoption of automation and AI tools.
- Maintain strong financial governance, internal controls and audit readiness.
Requirements:
- Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- Professional qualification such as CA, CPA or ACCA would be advantageous.
- At least eight years of relevant accounting or finance experience, with team-management exposure.
- Strong experience in management accounting, budgeting, OPEX reporting, funding, invoicing and financial controls.
- Experience managing client relationships and working with operational stakeholders.
- Maritime, ship-management or vessel-accounting experience is preferred.
- Experience driving process improvements, automation or change initiatives would be advantageous.
- Proficiency in ERP systems; Oracle NetSuite experience would be an advantage.
