Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Unix / Linux Systems Engineer to support and maintain enterprise server infrastructure within a mission-critical operating environment.
The role will focus on the administration, trouble shooting and ongoing reliability of Unix and Linux platforms, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Solaris, AIX and SUSE. You will support day-to-day infrastructure operations, system changes, incident resolution, patching and service continuity activities while ensuring agreed service levels are maintained.
Key Responsibilities
Unix / Linux Administration
- Administer and maintain enterprise Unix and Linux server environments.
- Provide operational support across RHEL, Solaris, AIX and SUSE platforms.
- Perform system maintenance, configuration, patching and software package deployment across test, pre-production and production environments.
- Support Red Hat Cluster and Oracle Solaris Cluster environments.
- Investigate server and application-related issues and perform root cause analysis.
- Troubleshoot infrastructure-related third-party applications and coordinate with vendors where escalation is required.
Incident & Change Management
- Provide Level 1 and Level 2 support for Unix/Linux infrastructure incidents.
- Respond to system incidents, security alerts and operational issues, ensuring appropriate resolution and stakeholder communication.
- Execute infrastructure changes according to established change-management procedures.
- Track operational changes and provide timely progress and status updates.
- Support corrective actions to maintain agreed service levels.
Business Continuity & Operations
- Support backup, restoration and disaster recovery activities to maintain service availability.
- Participate in infrastructure continuity and recovery exercises.
- Assist with audit activities and follow up on identified findings.
- Maintain accurate system, operational and support documentation.
- Work with internal teams and external vendors to resolve infrastructure issues.
Requirements
- Diploma or higher qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience supporting Unix/Linux systems within an enterprise environment.
- Strong administration experience in one or more of the following:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux
Oracle Solaris
IBM AIX
SUSE Linux
- Hands-on knowledge of Red Hat Clustering and Oracle Solaris Clustering.
- Experience with scripting languages or tools such as Perl, Ruby and AWK.
- Familiarity with SolarWinds or similar infrastructure monitoring solutions.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
- Understanding of incident, change and service management processes.
- Exposure to Windows Server, Active Directory and Group Policy will be an advantage.
