Demurrage Analyst
About this job
Duties & Responsibilities
•Monitor logistics management and physical trade execution through tracking of voyage demurrage exposure
•Calculate and validate demurrage/despatch based on charter party agreements (e.g., Asbatankvoy).
•Investigate operation delays and bottlenecks (e.g., port congestion, terminal inefficiencies, documentation issues) that give rise to
demurrage exposure.
•Identify demurrage related operational improvements and drive to resolution to minimize demurrage cost impact
•Liaise with trading operators, terminals, and agents to resolve disputes and expedite claim settlements.
•Review, prepare, negotiate, and settle demurrage and related claims with counterparties (shipowners, traders, suppliers).
•Validate accuracy of invoices and ensure compliance with contractual terms and time-bar requirements.
•Track demurrage payables and receivables, ensuring timely cost recovery and revenue protection.
•Provide detailed analysis of demurrage trends, cost drivers, and financial exposure.
•Identify and assess operational, contractual, and financial risks arising from vessel delays and logistics inefficiencies.
•Ensure compliance with charter party terms, contractual obligations, and internal governance policies.
•Analyze historical data to identify recurring issues and recommend mitigation strategies.
•Support internal audits and maintain documentation for compliance and regulatory purposes.
•Partner with traders to evaluate demurrage exposure in trading deals and voyage economics.
•Provide cost insights to support pricing, margin optimization, and deal structuring.
•Advise on logistics-related contract terms during trade negotiations.
•Support commercial teams in recovering costs and resolving disputes with counterparties.
•Support management of supply procurement contracts with demurrage performance data and insights.
•Develop dashboards and reports on demurrage costs, claims status, and operational performance.
•Provide management with insights into cost-saving opportunities and process improvements.
•Drive initiatives to enhance supply chain efficiency and reduce exposure to avoidable demurrage.
Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Supply Chain, Business, Finance, Engineering or related field
•1-2 years of experience in oil & gas / commodity trading operations, shipping, or demurrage claims
•Strong understanding of tanker operations, charter party terms, and laytime calculations
•Knowledge of global shipping logistics, terminals, and supply chain operations
