About this job

Project accounting and financial close

  • Support and progressively lead month-end closing activities, ensuring financial information is accurate, complete and delivered on time.
  • Manage project-based accounting, including project cost tracking, revenue recognition, percentage-of-completion (POC) calculations, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, accruals and margin analysis.
  • Review project financial performance and highlight cost overruns, margin movements, unbilled revenue, WIP risks and data inconsistencies.
  • Maintain accurate project accounting records, reconciliations, schedules and audit trails.
  • Improve the accuracy, timeliness and consistency of project reporting and monthly management accounts.

Process improvement and automation

  • Review finance workflows and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, controls and scalability.
  • Redesign and implement practical improvements across project accounting, closing, invoicing, expenses, reconciliations and reporting.
  • Automate recurring processes and reports where appropriate, reducing manual effort and duplicate work.
  • Apply AI-enabled tools, automation platforms and data tools responsibly to improve finance productivity, analysis and documentation.
  • Develop and maintain process maps, standard operating procedures and checklists.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and system providers to test, implement and embed process improvements.

Data and reporting

  • Improve the quality, consistency and timeliness of finance and project data across systems and reports.
  • Support the development of a trusted single source of truth for project, revenue, cost, WIP and financial reporting.
  • Create or enhance management dashboards and reporting packs that provide clear project and financial insight.
  • Reconcile key data between project records, operational systems and the accounting system.
  • Identify data gaps, errors and inconsistent definitions, and recommend appropriate corrective actions and controls.
  • Support the adoption of structured data standards and reporting discipline across the business.

Controls and stakeholder support

  • Strengthen finance controls relating to project costs, revenue recognition, WIP, approvals and reconciliations.
  • Support year-end audit, statutory reporting and finance-related compliance requirements.
  • Partner with project and operational teams to improve the quality and timeliness of financial inputs.
  • Support the adoption of new processes, reporting standards and tools within the Finance team.

Candidate Profile

Essential requirements

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline. Professional accounting qualification, or active progress toward one, is an advantage.
  • Approximately 3–6 years of relevant finance or accounting experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience in month-end closing, reconciliations, journal entries and financial reporting.
  • Experience in project-based accounting, including POC or revenue recognition, WIP, project costing and margin analysis preferred, but not essential.
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with large or incomplete datasets.
  • Experience with an ERP or accounting system and reporting tools. Exposure to Power BI, Power Query, SQL, workflow automation or comparable tools is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience improving a process, automating reporting, improving data quality or implementing a more effective finance workflow.
  • Good understanding of financial controls and accounting fundamentals.
