About this job

The Mooring Crew / General Worker is responsible for assisting with the safe mooring and unmooring of vessels at port or terminal facilities. The role also includes general labor tasks such as cleaning, maintenance, cargo handling, and other duties as assigned to support smooth daily operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform mooring and unmooring operations for incoming and outgoing vessels.
  • Handle and secure mooring lines to bollards, capstans, and other fixtures.
  • Operate basic mooring equipment (e.g., winches, capstans) safely and efficiently.
  • Assist in berthing and unberthing procedures under the direction of the mooring master or supervisor.
  • Conduct safety checks and follow procedures to ensure a secure mooring operation.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks including cleaning, painting, and minor repairs.
  • Assist with cargo loading and unloading operations when required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the work area and follow proper waste disposal methods.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all health and safety regulations.
  • Report hazards, incidents, or near misses promptly.
  • Work cooperatively with team members and other departments to ensure efficient operations.

Requirements:

  • Physically fit and able to work in outdoor, sometimes harsh weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Experience in marine or port operations is an advantage (not always required).
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions and safety procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of safe manual handling techniques.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in mooring operations or port/terminal work.
  • Familiarity with marine safety standards and equipment.
  • Basic mechanical or maintenance skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Physically demanding tasks including heavy lifting and climbing.
  • Rotating shifts, including night shifts and weekends
