Role Overview
As a Front of House Barista, you will be responsible for both customer-facing service and beverage preparation, from welcoming customers and taking orders to preparing coffee and maintaining the overall cleanliness and presentation of the café.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys interacting with people, works well in a fast-paced environment, and takes pride in providing attentive and personable service.
Key Responsibilities
Front of House & Customer Service
Welcome and attend to customers in a friendly, professional, and approachable manner.
Take customer orders accurately and provide recommendations on menu items when required.
Process payments and operate the Point-of-Sale (POS) system accurately.
Serve food, desserts, coffee, and other beverages promptly and according to service standards.
Clear and reset tables to maintain a clean and welcoming dining environment.
Respond to customer enquiries and feedback professionally, escalating issues when necessary.
Provide attentive service and contribute to a positive overall customer experience.
Support upselling and recommendation of menu items where appropriate.
Barista & Beverage Preparation
Prepare espresso-based coffee, tea, and other beverages according to established recipes and presentation standards.
Operate and maintain coffee machines, grinders, and other beverage equipment appropriately.
Ensure consistency in beverage quality, portioning, presentation, and service.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the coffee station throughout the shift.
Monitor beverage ingredients and supplies and inform the team when replenishment is required.
Café Operations
Assist with opening and closing duties according to the assigned roster.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the dining area, service counter, beverage station, and other front-of-house areas.
Follow food safety, hygiene, and workplace safety procedures at all times.
Assist with stock replenishment, inventory checks, and proper storage of café supplies.
Coordinate closely with the kitchen and other team members to ensure orders are served accurately and efficiently.
Support the team during busy service periods and assist with general café duties when required.
Requirements
Prior experience in a café, F&B, customer service, or barista environment is advantageous but not essential.
Barista experience, including familiarity with espresso machines and coffee preparation, will be an advantage.
Strong customer service mindset with a friendly and approachable personality.
Comfortable communicating with customers and working as part of a team.
Able to work efficiently and remain organised during busy service periods.
Responsible, punctual, and able to follow operational and hygiene procedures consistently.
Comfortable working on your feet for extended periods and carrying out routine café duties such as serving, clearing tables, and replenishing supplies.
Able to work on both Saturdays and Sundays.
Able to work rostered shifts within the café's operating hours.
WSQ Food Safety Course Level 1 certification is required for food-handling duties. Candidates who have not attained the certification should be willing to obtain it as required.
Working Hours & Schedule
44-hour work week before overtime.
Rostered shift arrangement.
Saturday and Sunday availability is required.
Rest days will be scheduled flexibly on weekdays.
Shifts will be rostered within the café's operating hours:
Monday to Thursday: 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM
Friday: 10:00 AM – 10:30 PM
Saturday: 10:00 AM – 10:30 PM
Sunday: 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM
Overtime may be required depending on operational needs and will be managed in accordance with applicable company policies and prevailing regulations.
