Food & Lesson Preparation
- Ingredient Handling: Cut, prepare, and portion ingredients according to teacher recipes prior to Nutrition and Food Science (NFS) practical lessons.
Ordering & Inventory: Order food supplies for lessons and practical exams, receive deliveries, inspect items for freshness, coordinate exchanges/replacements with grocers, and manage leftover stock.
Department Projects: Assist with food preparation and logistics for special events, competitions, and departmental projects (e.g., Talent Development, Teachers' Day).
Lab Safety, Housekeeping & Maintenance
Post-Lesson Checks: Ensure all cookers and the main gas supply are turned off at the end of the day, dispose of rubbish, clear center store tables, and tidy up the Food Labs.
Cleanliness & Upkeep: Maintain overall lab tidiness, clean and maintain refrigerators (clearing old food), wash cleaning rags using the washer/dryer, and replenish consumables like soap and sponges.
Inventory & Administrative Support
Stock Management: Conduct regular inventory and stock-taking checks for food ingredients, lab equipment, and cleaning consumables, reporting any shortages to teachers.
Ad-Hoc Duties: Perform any other tasks assigned by FCE teachers.
Working Hours & Schedule
Standard Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM (includes a 30-minute lunch break).
School Holidays: Services are not required during the entire months of June, November, and December.
Off Days: Weekends, gazetted public holidays, and designated public holiday off-in-lieu closures.
Qualifications & Experience
Education: PSLE certificate and ability to read and converse in English.
Certification: Passed the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) Food Safety Course Level 1.
Working Experience: At least 1 year of relevant kitchen environment experience
Skills & Attributes
Food Handling: Knowledge of safe food handling practices and the ability to accurately portion ingredients for practical lessons.
Interpersonal & Team Skills: Good communication skills, a positive attitude, and a pleasant disposition.
Work Ethic: Capable of working independently, taking initiative, and operating as a collaborative team player.
