Adult English Teacher

Job Description

ULC Academy is looking for passionate and experienced Adult English Teachers to join our teaching team in Singapore.

Our adult English programmes primarily serve international learners, including students from Japan, South Korea and China, with levels ranging from absolute beginner to advanced.

We are particularly interested in teachers who have experience working with absolute beginners or students with very limited English proficiency, and who are confident in helping adult learners develop practical speaking and communication skills from the foundation level.

We welcome applicants seeking Full-Time, Part-Time or Freelance teaching arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach English to adult learners from Beginner to Advanced levels.
• Deliver practical, communication-focused English lessons with a strong emphasis on speaking and listening.
• Teach absolute beginners who may have little or no confidence communicating in English.
• Support Japanese, Korean and Chinese learners in overcoming common language and communication difficulties.
• Adapt teaching methods and classroom activities according to students' English levels, learning pace and cultural backgrounds.
• Conduct small-group and/or one-to-one lessons.
• Create an encouraging and interactive classroom environment where students feel comfortable speaking English.
• Monitor students' progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Prepare or adapt lesson materials according to the curriculum and students' learning needs.
• Participate in placement assessments, trial lessons and student progress evaluations when required.
• Maintain professional communication with students and the academic team.

Requirements

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in English, Education, Linguistics, TESOL or a related field is preferred.
• TESOL, TEFL, CELTA or equivalent teaching qualification is an advantage.
• Prior experience teaching English to adult learners is strongly preferred.
• Experience teaching Japanese, Korean and/or Chinese adult learners is highly desirable.
• Experience teaching absolute beginners (CEFR Pre-A1/A1) is a strong advantage.
• Strong spoken and written English.
• Ability to explain English clearly and patiently to learners with limited vocabulary.
• Confident in conducting interactive and speaking-focused lessons.
• Good classroom management and interpersonal skills.
• Reliable, professional and comfortable working with students from different cultural backgrounds.
• Experience teaching both group classes and private 1-to-1 lessons is an advantage.

Knowledge of Japanese, Korean or Mandarin is not required, although familiarity with the learning challenges commonly faced by these learners will be an advantage.

Working Arrangements

We are open to different employment arrangements based on the candidate's availability and teaching experience:

Full-Time
Suitable for teachers who are available for a regular weekly teaching schedule and can take on a higher teaching load.

Part-Time
Suitable for teachers who can commit to regular teaching slots on selected weekdays, evenings and/or weekends.

Freelance
Suitable for experienced teachers who prefer flexible teaching assignments based on class availability and student demand.

Classes may be scheduled during weekday mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends.
