DevOps Support Engineer (Kubernetes)

Is it the application? A failed pod? The deployment? The database? The network? Or something sitting underneath the Kubernetes environment?

You're the engineer expected to help figure that out.

We're looking for a DevOps Support Engineer to support business-critical applications running across modern cloud and containerised environments.

This isn't a traditional helpdesk or ticket-routing support position. You'll be working closer to the engineering layer — investigating production incidents, analysing logs, troubleshooting Kubernetes workloads and working across application, infrastructure, network and database teams to restore services.

You don't necessarily need to be the person who designed the Kubernetes platform from scratch. But you should be comfortable getting hands-on when something isn't behaving as expected.

What you'll be doing

• Provide hands-on L2 technical support for production applications and take ownership of incidents through investigation and resolution.
• Troubleshoot Kubernetes environments, including pods, deployments, services, container logs and application health.
• Investigate issues across the application, cloud/infrastructure, network and database layers to isolate the source of production problems.
• Support application deployments, releases and upgrades and investigate deployment failures.
• Analyse application and system logs, monitoring alerts and performance metrics to identify root causes.
• Work with Microsoft Azure environments, with exposure to Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) highly advantageous.
• Perform SQL/database investigation where required to diagnose application or data-related issues.
• Work closely with Development, DevOps, Infrastructure and external vendors while retaining ownership of the initial technical investigation.
• Participate in incident management, RCA and continuous improvement of application stability and support processes.
• Support production environments that may require after-hours or 24/7 operational coverage.

What we're looking for

• Hands-on experience supporting production applications in Kubernetes environments.
• Practical troubleshooting experience with pods, deployments, services and container/application logs.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure; hands-on AKS experience would be highly advantageous.
• Strong understanding of Linux, application troubleshooting and production support.
• Experience with monitoring/logging tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Kibana, Elasticsearch, Datadog or similar.
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
• Exposure to CI/CD, application deployments and release processes.
• Able to troubleshoot beyond the application itself and investigate potential network, infrastructure, database and configuration issues.
• Comfortable owning technical investigations before escalating to the appropriate engineering team.

The kind of engineer we're looking for

We're less concerned about whether your current title says Application Support, DevOps, Production Support, Cloud Engineer or Systems Engineer.

What matters is what you actually do when production breaks.

If you're comfortable opening the logs, checking the pods, looking at the deployment, testing connectivity, checking the database and narrowing down the problem before saying “this belongs to another team” — we'd like to speak with you.
