Job Summary
The Civil Engineer is responsible for supporting andcoordinating civil and structural construction activities to ensure works areexecuted safely, on schedule, within specification, and in accordance withapproved drawings and project requirements.
The role involves close coordination with subcontractors,consultants, clients, suppliers, and other disciplines to resolve site issuesand ensure smooth execution of the works.
Key Responsibilities
1. SiteExecution & Supervision
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily civil and structural construction activities.
- Monitor subcontractors' manpower, equipment, materials, and work progress.
- Ensure construction works comply with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and project requirements.
- Coordinate activities including earthworks, piling, reinforced concrete works, structural works, drainage, roads, external works, and architectural interfaces.
- Conduct regular site inspections and identify potential construction issues before they affect progress.
- Ensure proper sequencing of works and readiness of work fronts for subcontractors.
- Coordinate inspections and obtain necessary clearances before proceeding with subsequent activities.
2. TechnicalCoordination
- Review construction drawings, shop drawings, technical submissions, and method statements.
- Identify discrepancies, clashes, and constructability issues and raise RFIs where required.
- Coordinate civil and structural works with architectural, M&E, process, and other disciplines.
- Liaise with consultants and designers to resolve technical and site-related issues.
- Assist in reviewing subcontractor proposals and alternative construction methods.
- Ensure the latest approved drawings and documents are used for construction.
3. Planning& Progress Monitoring
- Assist the Project Manager / Construction Manager in preparing and monitoring construction schedules.
- Prepare short-term and weekly work plans.
- Track actual progress against the approved project programme.
- Identify delays, constraints, and potential risks and propose recovery or mitigation measures.
- Coordinate upcoming activities, manpower, materials, equipment, inspections, and access requirements.
- Participate in progress and coordination meetings.
4. QualityControl
- Ensure works are carried out in accordance with approved Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), specifications, and quality requirements.
- Coordinate inspections with QA/QC personnel, consultants, and clients.
- Monitor concrete works including reinforcement, formwork, embedded items, concrete placement, and testing.
- Ensure required inspections, tests, and records are completed and properly documented.
- Follow up on NCRs, defects, punch-list items, and corrective actions until closure.
- Assist with preparation and verification of as-built information.
5. Safety
- Ensure all construction activities comply with project safety requirements and applicable regulations.
- Work closely with the Safety team to ensure approved method statements and risk assessments are implemented.
- Conduct site checks and immediately address unsafe conditions or work practices.
- Ensure subcontractors maintain proper housekeeping, access, barricading, and work-area controls.
- Participate in toolbox meetings, safety inspections, and coordination meetings where required.
6.Subcontractor & Material Coordination
- Coordinate and supervise civil and structural subcontractors.
- Monitor subcontractor performance, productivity, quality, and progress.
- Verify that materials delivered to site comply with approved material submissions and specifications.
- Monitor material requirements and coordinate procurement/delivery to avoid construction delays.
- Assist in verifying subcontractor progress and completed quantities where required.
7.Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare daily and weekly progress reports.
- Maintain records of site activities, inspections, manpower, progress, and significant site issues.
- Prepare RFIs, inspection requests, technical queries, and other project documentation.
- Maintain proper records of approved drawings, method statements, inspection reports, test reports, and as-built information.
- Provide progress updates and highlight critical issues to the Project Manager / Construction Manager.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 0–5 years of relevant construction experience. Fresh graduates are welcome to apply.
- Basic understanding of civil and structural construction methods.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and construction drawings.
- Knowledge of reinforced concrete, structural steel, earthworks, drainage, and general civil works.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; knowledge of Microsoft Project, BIM, or related construction software is an advantage.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Able to work effectively with subcontractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Willing to work in a site-based environment.
PreferredExperience
Experience orexposure in any of the following would be advantageous:
- Industrial or semiconductor construction projects
- Cleanroom / advanced manufacturing facilities
- Large-scale building or infrastructure projects
- Piling and foundation works
- Reinforced concrete and structural steel construction
- Underground services and drainage works
- Singapore construction practices and authority requirements
- Main contractor project environments
