Job Summary
We are seeking a Head Coach to lead our swimming programme from Learn-to-Swim to Competitive Squads. This hands-on leadership role involves coaching senior squads, mentoring coaches, and driving a culture of excellence, safety, and enjoyment in swimming.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and oversee a structured swimming pathway ensuring clear progression from beginner to competitive levels
- Coach senior and competitive squads by planning training programmes, race strategies, and periodisation for meets
- Lead and mentor coaching staff by providing training, feedback, and performance reviews to enhance team capabilities
- Establish and enforce coaching standards, safety protocols, and best practices across all programme levels
- Identify and support swimmers’ progression into competitive squads through targeted development plans
- Organize and manage swim meet participation, including entries, race planning, and on-deck coaching support
- Monitor swimmer performance using data and feedback to refine coaching methods and improve outcomes
- Build strong relationships with swimmers and parents by communicating progress, expectations, and programme updates
- Collaborate with management to drive programme growth, class structure, and scheduling improvements
- Ensure compliance with pool safety standards, child safeguarding policies, and swimming association regulations
- Represent the club at swimming association events, competitions, and coaching networks
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years relevant teaching experience (advantageous)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education or equivalent
- Ability to conduct programmes for babies, preschool, Learn to Swim, Competitive, and Adult swimmers
- Fluency in English
- Flexibility to work weekdays, evenings, weekends, and public holidays
- Enthusiastic and positive attitude towards swimming
- Excellent communication skills with both children and adults
- Ability to inspire confidence and motivate swimmers
- Perseverance and patience in coaching and mentoring
- Understanding of differentiated teaching methods in swim sessions
- Professionalism, punctuality, and strong organizational skills for managing swimming classes and training
