About the Role
Our Client is hiring for Coneman and Lashing Specialist positions at PSA Container Terminal. There are two tracks available—candidates are initially deployed as Coneman for 3 to 6 months before progressing to Lashing Specialist if they choose. The Lashing Specialist role involves working at heights onboard vessels. Candidates who are unable or unwilling to work at heights may remain in the Coneman role, subject to meeting the requirements of that role.
Coneman — What You Will Be Doing
- Ensure twist locks are removed from containers prior to PMGO (Prime Mover Gate Out)
- Prepare lashing equipment including twist locks and lashing gears before operations commence
- Assist in vessel berthing and unberthing operations
- Assist in water bunkering operations
- Fix and remove twist locks on and from containers
- Flap and unflap containers
- Plug and unplug reefer containers
- Fix and unfix spreaders, over-height and un-containerised cargo gears
- Ensure smooth operations and safety compliance throughout the shift
- Take safety precautions to prevent accidents and incidents
- Report all damages and incidents to superiors immediately
- Attend toolbox briefings prior to commencement of each shift
- Comply with all company SOPs and Workplace Safety standards
Lashing Specialist — What You Will Be Doing All Coneman duties, plus:
- Perform lashing and unlashing operations on board vessels at PSA Container Terminal
- Assist in vessel berthing and unberthing operations
- Responsible for positioning and securing containers on board vessels
- Wear all required PPE at all times including uniform, safety helmet, body harness, safety shoes, and life jacket
- Report all exceptions and unusual occurrences to the team leader, STA, or duty supervisor immediately
Requirements
- Minimum PSLE with passes in English, N(A) Level 5, N(T) Level D, or WPLN (Reading, Listening, Numeracy) Level 4
- Able to perform physically demanding duties including prolonged standing/walking, manual handling and working in an operational terminal environment.
- Willing and able to work shifts of up to 12 hours, subject to applicable statutory rest and break requirements.
- No driving licence required
Training & Bond
- 1-week induction course commencing at 7:30 AM
- A 6 months training bond applies following enrolment in the relevant training programme. The bond amount is $1,000 for Coneman training and $2,000 for Lashing Specialist training. The detailed repayment terms will be set out in the training agreement.
