Job Summary
The Nurse Educator is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating and evaluating nursing education, clinical training and competency development across Ju Eng Home.
The role ensures that nursing staff are adequately prepared, competent and supported to deliver safe,effective and person-centred care to residents.
The Nurse Educator works closely with Nursing leadership, Quality & Risk Management and Human Resources to identify learning needs, implement structured training programmes, maintaincompetency standards and support continuous professional development across thenursing workforce.
Key Responsibilities
1. Nursing Education &Training Framework
· Develop and maintain a structured nursing education and competency framework for JEH.
· Plan annual nursing training priorities based on operational needs, clinical risks, audit findings, incidents and regulatory requirements.
· Develop training plans for different nursing grades and care roles.
· Ensure training programmer are aligned with JEH’s clinical standards, policies and organisational priorities.
2. Orientation & Onboarding
· Develop and coordinate nursing orientation programmes for newly recruited staff.
· Ensure new nurses and care staff receive appropriate induction before independent deployment.
· Coordinate structured orientation, supervised practice and competency sign-off.
· Monitor completion of probationary clinical competencies.
· Identify staff who require additional support, supervision or retraining.
3. Clinical Competency Assessment
· Develop and maintain competency checklists and assessment tools.
· Conductor coordinate competency assessments for relevant nursing and care procedures.
· Ensure staff are assessed before performing designated clinical procedures independently.
· Maintain clear records of competency status, expiry dates and reassessment requirements.
· Work with Nursing leaders to address competency gaps.
4. Mandatory & Regulatory Training
· Coordinate mandatory clinical training required for nursing staff.
· Track completion and validity of required training and certifications.
· Follow upon overdue or expiring competencies and certifications.
· Support compliance with applicable licensing, regulatory and organisational training requirements.
· Work with HR and QRM to maintain accurate training records and evidence for audits.
5. Clinical Skills Training
· Conductor coordinate clinical skills training in areas including, where applicable:
· Medication management
· Wound care
· Infection prevention and control
· Falls prevention
· Safe patient handling and transfer
· Enteral feeding
· Catheter care
· Chronic disease management
· Emergency response
· Basic life support
· End-of-lifecare
· Dementia care
· Documentation and care planning
· Update training content based on changing clinical practices and organisational needs.
6. Learning Needs Analysis
· Conduct periodic training-needs assessments across nursing teams.
· Review audit findings, incidents, complaints and competency gaps to identify learning priorities.
· Work with Nurse Managers and Nursing Officers to develop targeted training interventions.
· Recommendadditional training or remediation where recurring gaps are identified.
7. Training Delivery &Facilitation
· Deliver classroom, bedside, simulation and hands-on clinical training.
· Develop training materials, lesson plans, competency guides and learning resources.
· Use practical and accessible teaching methods suitable for staff with different levels of experience and language proficiency.
· Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, observation and post-training review.
8. Preceptor & Clinical Coach Development
· Develop and support a pool of preceptors, mentors and clinical coaches.
· Provide guidance on effective supervision, coaching and competency assessment.
· Standardise expectations for preceptors and assessors.
· Monitor the quality and consistency of workplace-based learning.
9. Continuing Professional Development
· Promote continuous learning and professional development within the Nursing Department.
· Identify suitable internal and external training opportunities.
· Support staff progression through structured clinical development pathways.
· Assist Nursing leadership in developing training plans for succession and career progression.
10. Clinical Governance &Quality Improvement
· Work closely with Quality & Risk Management on education arising from:
· Incidents
· Root-cause analyses
· Internal audits
· External audits
· Regulatory findings
· Policy and SOP changes
· Develop focused training to address identified quality or safety gaps.
· Participatein clinical quality-improvement projects.
· Support implementation of new clinical policies and practices through staff education.
11. Training Records &Reporting
· Maintain accurate records of:
· Training attendance
· Competency assessments
· Certification status
· Training hours
· Learning plans
· Remedial training
· Develop and maintain a nursing training and competency master register.
· Prepare regular training and competency reports for the Director of Nursing and management.
· Highlight overdue training, competency gaps and high-risk areas requiring intervention.
12. Policy & SOP Support
· Review nursing SOPs from an education and implementation perspective.
· Ensure staff training is conducted when significant clinical policies or procedures are introduced or revised.
· Develop easy-to-understand learning materials and practical guides where appropriate.
· Support consistent implementation of policies across wards and shifts.
13. Remedial Training &Performance Support
· Provide targeted coaching and remedial training to staff who require additional support.
· Work with Nurse Managers and Nursing Officers on individual competency-improvement plans.
· Track progress and reassess competency where required.
· Escalate persistent competency concerns to Nursing leadership.
14. External Training & Partnerships
· Liaise with training providers, healthcare institutions and relevant professional bodies.
· Coordinate external courses, clinical attachments and learning opportunities where appropriate.
· Evaluate external programmes for relevance and value to JEH.
· Support collaborative education initiatives with community and healthcare partners.
Requirements
· Registered Nurse with the Singapore Nursing Board.
· Degree in Nursing or equivalent recognised nursing qualification.
· Preferably at least 5 years of nursing experience.
· Prior experience in clinical education, staff development, preceptorship or competency assessment is strongly preferred.
· Experience in nursing homes, geriatrics, community care or long-term care would be advantageous.
· Formalqualification in nursing education, clinical education, adult learning or training would be an advantage.
· Strong clinical knowledge and ability to translate clinical standards into practical training.
· Strong facilitation, coaching and communication skills.
· Comfortable working with staff from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
