Job Summary

Support the Engineering Manager and lead technical engineering activities for complex data center facility components. Collaborate across teams to ensure product delivery aligns with client requirements and industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all technical engineering activities and discussions within the team or project to ensure alignment with project goals
  • Review, check, and approve engineering drawings and documentation to meet industrial standards and enable accurate manufacturing of data center infrastructure modules
  • Monitor engineering work for accuracy and compliance with client specifications, codes, safety practices, and project procedures
  • Initiate and participate in design and development planning and review sessions to address customer and industry needs
  • Prepare technical requisitions (TRs) and mechanical engineering deliverables including valve lists, equipment lists, piping line lists, stress/flexibility studies, line sizing, and equipment data sheets
  • Develop creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs while maintaining quality, cost, and schedule objectives
  • Stay informed on new developments and recommend program or application changes to improve engineering processes
  • Manage engineering change control and generate Management of Change (MOC) documents as required
  • Make independent technical decisions and represent the organization in meetings to resolve critical issues
  • Define project engineering scope of work and develop execution plans
  • Estimate, plan, and forecast project man-hours for all engineering functions
  • Keep current with advancements in electrical engineering and data center technologies to recommend improvements for product reliability and efficiency
  • Specify appropriate painting and coating systems for data center components
  • Determine mounting, fastening, and bolting methods for components and major equipment
  • Advise discipline engineers on interpreting and clarifying applicable industry codes and client specifications
  • Supervise outsourced piping engineering work when necessary
  • Perform or review pipe stress analysis using all applicable design loads and combinations per the Design Basis
  • Provide piping load data to structural engineers
  • Serve as primary client contact during review meetings, responding promptly and professionally to inquiries and concerns
  • Provide technical support during construction phases, addressing RFIs and resolving issues
  • Attend job site visits, project meetings, and commissioning activities as required

Required competencies and certifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics) with relevant data center expertise
  • Minimum 10 years of mechanical design and engineering experience focused on data center infrastructure
  • Proficiency in producing drawings and sketches to illustrate designs and ideas
  • Knowledge of data center construction, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems and components
  • Familiarity with industry standards and codes including AISI, ANSI, ASME (B&PV Section VIII, IX, B31.3), ASTM, AWS, IBC, MFMA, MSS, OSHA, NACE, NFPA, and PFI
  • Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM) software
  • Experience managing fast track design/build projects or multiple significant upgrade projects
  • Understanding of critical mechanical and electrical equipment and systems within data centers
  • Experience negotiating with regulatory agencies for design approvals and permitting
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint) and PDF editors (Adobe, Foxit, or equivalent)
  • Operational knowledge of SAP ERP with engineering modules, SolidWorks, Autodesk Revit, Autodesk BIM 360, Autodesk AutoCAD, and Navisworks Manager/Freedom
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal, to communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively
